Overview

The Perform Blood Collection - HLTPAT306B unit is for those wishing to upgrade or refresh their skills, and those already in healthcare who need more experience in blood collections.  This unit is delivered over day 3 & 4 of the course.

Please note Perform Blood Collection - HLTPAT306B is included in the Certificate III in Pathology - HLT32607 but may be undertaken separately. This unit is not suitable for those that have no health care experience or have not collected blood before unless undertaken during the Certificate III.

We recommend students who wish to complete this competency seperately meet one of the following criteria;

1. Previous experience collecting venous blood samples in a health care environment
2. A qualification or experience in health care
3. A health care professional needing to collect blood samples for their currect work

Class size approximately 15-20.

Course content

Perform blood collection - HLTPAT306B
This unit is concerned with the knowledge and skills required for routine blood collection from a defined client/patient group, and excludes complex blood collection techniques.

Work performed requires a broad knowledge base and the ability to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems. Individuals will take responsibility for the quantity and quality of their work.

All tasks are conducted in accordance with organisational policies and procedures including OHS and infection control guidelines.
